1. Silk products trade situation in August

According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the trade value of silk products in August was 261 million US dollars, dropping 3.82% from the previous month and 18.71% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 16.0956 million US dollars, decreasing 13.87% month-on-month and 65.84% year-on-year; the export value was 245 million US dollars, with a decrease of 3.08% on a monthly basis and a decline of 10.61% from the year earlier. The specific product composition was as follows:

 

Import: The amount of silk filament was 4.8847 million US dollars, down by 9.34% month-on-month and 72.57% YOY, with whose quantity dropping 1.37% from the previous month to 124.47 tons and falling 69.15% from the year earlier; the amount of silk fabrics was 5.1789 million US dollars, falling 30.82% and 48.66% from the previous month and year respectively; The amount of silk madeups was 6.032 million US dollars, up by 3.74% from the previous month and down by 68.62% YOY.

 

Export: The amount of silk filament was 2.0911 million US dollars, a decrease of 24.99% month-on-month and an increase of 32.31% YOY, with whose quantity dropping 21.98% month-on-month to 377.4 tons and rising 55.05% YOY; the amount of silk fabrics was 16.2907 million US dollars, dropping 4.03% and 9.54% from the previous month and year respectively; The amount of silk madeups was 227 million US dollars, a month-on-month decrease of 2.75% and a fall of 10.95% YOY.

 

2. Silk products trade from January to August

From January to August, the trade value of Indian silk totaled 1799 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 30.59%. Among them, the import value was 176 million US dollars, down 41.91% YOY; the export value was 1623 million US dollars,  down 29.09% YOY(the same below). Details were as follows:

The composition of imported products amounted to 66.7304 million US dollars of silk filament, dropping 45.27%, with whose quantity falling 45.01% to 1455.85 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 55.4925 million US dollars, with a drop of 34.92%; Silk madeups amounted to 54.009 million US dollars, declining 43.86%.

 

The major sources of imports were China (85.9995 million US dollars, down 50.59% , accounting for 48.8%), Vietnam (33.0518 million US dollars, down 32.29%, accounting for 18.75%), Hong Kong (13.7188 million US dollars, down 9.19% , accounting for 7.78%), Bangladesh (10.0085 million US dollars, down 36.32% , accounting for 5.68%), Sri Lanka (6.692 million US dollars, down 57.39%, accounting for 3.8%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 84.81%.

 

The composition of export products amounted to 13.0076 million US dollars of silk filament, a year-on-year increase of 9.55%, with whose quantity growing 28.39% to 1960.9 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 104 million US dollars, down 26.9%; and silk madeups were 1506 million US dollars, a decrease of 29.45%.

 

The major export markets were the United States (694 million US dollars, down 19.94%, accounting for 42.75%), UAE (123 million US dollars, down 48.09%, accounting for 7.6%), the United Kingdom (93.805 million US dollars, down 27.99%, accounting for 5.78%), Germany (72.3795 million US dollars, down 32.24%, accounting for 4.46%), Spain (60.7921 million US dollars, down 44.02%, accounting for 3.75%). The five markets above accounted for 64.34% of the total.
